Liner Notes

What’s that noise? A brass band tuning up outside the window at 8 am on a Sunday. Can’t be. Stick my head under the pillow… Aargh! Those drums are LOUD!

Come rain or shine the Bollywood Brass Band wake up the neighbours and start the wedding guests dancing in the street early on weekend mornings up and down the country – a slice of modern Indian life, carrying the past on its back. The processions may run up the motorway, rather from one village to the next, but the band is there to start them off and play them in, the sun sparkling off the trumpets and the dhol drums in full voice telling the world that an Event is under way – Something Important is happening.

The songs range from the traditional, learnt head to head from the great Shyam Brass Band, to 90’s London arrangements of the latest Bombay hits, hot from the screen. The Bollywood Brass Band cook it all up in their special masala, because in music – and life – you use who you are and where you’re from.
