Kay Charlton

After doing a music degree in Norwich, Kay started musical life in London with Maroon Town (ska/rap) in the mid 80's. Since then she has played with various groups including a 5-year stint with London Salsa band Salsa y Ache and a time with Rai singer Abdelkader Saadoun.

Currently Kay plays with Crocodile Style street band amongst others. Recently she has been playing with the Vortex Foundation Big Band, which was formed by Annie Whitehead for the London Jazz Festival 2002.

Kay is active as a brass tutor in schools and as a workshop leader both alone and with The Transisters - a women's street band and samba workshop group (with Ros and Sarha) which she coordinates.

Kay has always composed and arranged and has done many arrangements for The Bollywood Brass Band. She also helps to manage the BBB - including managing the website - and to coordinate their educational projects. One such project was Brass Fusion, which involved Kay conducting youth brass bands at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
